JCWI is an independent national charity. Our aim is to promote justice, fairness and the elimination of discrimination in immigration, nationality, asylum law and policy. We represent the legal rights of migrants and refugees and campaign for their human, economic and civil rights. In 2017 we celebrated our 50th year at the forefront of this field.
JCWI has a long history of working on all aspects of family migration policy and campaigning. Notably through the Divided Families Campaign that has run over several decades, our multiple reports on the post-2012 family migration rules, and through our legal work. We are very pleased to be part of the Families Together Initiative, which is being administered by the British Red Cross, bringing together strands of work on both refugee & non-refugee family reunion across a number of organisations. Our role in this wider initiative will be, initially at least, to focus on non-refugee family reunion/migration routes, to provide legal advice to families, and to ensure that their voices are at the forefront of the political and public debate and at the heart of our campaigns.
We are recruiting a full-time caseworker to provide specialist, pro bono legal advice to families who are either currently separated or face separation under Appendix FM of the Immigration Rules. The role is an exciting opportunity to provide free legal advice to vulnerable individuals and families while identifying and pursuing opportunities for strategic litigation and working closely with our policy and campaigns team to pursue lasting change.
In addition to a competitive salary, the post-holder will enjoy generous pension contributions and leave allowances and other benefits including free access to JCWI trainings, bike loan schemes and the opportunity to work closely with an dynamic team of passionate, highly skilled lawyers and campaigners at the forefront of the movement for fairness and equality in the UK's immigration system.
To apply for this role, please send an updated CV and cover letter to email@example.com with "Immigration Solicitor - Families Together" in the subject line.
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide the names and contact details of up to three referees.
Applications for this position will close at 5PM on Friday 13 July 2018.
