JCWI condemns Conservative pledge to raise spouse visa income threshold

Back to Press Releases

JCWI condemns the pledge contained in the Conservative manifesto to raise the income threshold for spouse visas for individuals from outside the European Economic Area above its current level of £18,600.

Saira Grant, Chief Executive of JCWI, said: '“It is outrageous to propose an increase to the income requirement for spouse visas at this juncture. The Government still hasn’t fixed the illegality the Supreme Court found in the rules, nor has it considered and implemented the Court’s recommendations to make the rules less harsh and arbitrary. Meanwhile cases hang in limbo owing to this delay, with children enduring further months of separation from parents. It is madness of the cruellest sort to sacrifice the family unity of British citizens and residents at the altar of the net migration target.”

Saira Grant is available for interview.
